Row, row, row your boat..

Well unfortunately because of the weather this weekend I was not able to go on my next adventure, which was supposed to be kayaking. I’m pretty bummed because we had a nice big group of people willing to go and I’ve been dying to go kayaking for such a long time!

There is a place near Cold Springs, NY called Constitution Marsh, which has kayaking and many other outdoor activities. To rent a kayak it’s only $25 for 1 hour, $45 for 2 hours, or $65 for three hours. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. They also offer instructions and tours on kayaking. They have a great website that explains all of this at Hudson Valley Outfitters 

I wish I had more to say about this and hopefully this weekend or next I’ll be able to get up there and finally get to kayak. Upstate New York is really a great place for outdoor activities, there is so much to do and the scenery is just breathtaking. On September 3^rd at 7pm they will be hosting a Cold Springs Kayaking tour with fireworks. If you can’t tell from my other posts I’m a sucker for fireworks. Ever since I was a little kid I’ve loved watching fireworks.

If anyone has ever been here I’d love to hear some reviews on it, or anything you can recommend or suggest I do. Even if you’ve been kayaking before, any tips would be helpful. It can’t be too hard to just paddle around although I heard there is a bit of tides that roll through. I’ve gone white water rafting (which is AMAZINNGG) so I’m pretty sure I’ll be all set for kayaking!

A day in the life of a NY Met's fan..

So first on my list of things to do this summer was get to CitiField to watch a Mets game. I’ve always been an avid Met fan since I was little. Growing up in Queens in a Jewish family can do that to a person. I used to have season tickets when they played at Shea Stadium but have yet to get to CitiField.

The trip..

Of course I would have tickets to one of the hottest games of the year in the middle of a heat wave. Luckily, we drove in instead of having to sit on sweaty trains cramped next to people. I don’t know about you but I’d rather spare the 20 bucks for parking. Although, we did hit over an hour of traffic both ways because of all the construction. I could ramble on for hours about how much I despise traffic but I’ll save that for a later date.

The game..

Once we got inside and found our seats it was a little better. Our seats were AWESOME. Although we were high up, we were directly behind home plate. The best thing about baseball games is really getting to experience the stadium. Walking around and seeing all the different places to eat, all the memorabilia, all the other fans, and fans rooting for the opposing team! They have a great little place right behind center field that you can pick up some food, find a table to sit, and watch the game. 

The Met's were trailing the entire game and finally came back to win it in extra innings. The game was pretty standard, nothing too exciting, but the atmosphere and crowd can really get you going. There was one slight interruption when a fan ran onto the field and was avoiding the security. Although it was amusing and felt like it lasted forever, it probably wasn’t more then about five minutes. I’ll never understand what possesses people to do such things! No one knows who he was and they don’t show his face on TV or even on the jumbo screens at the game. So for all that eluding the security and running from them, he doesn’t get his real five minutes of fame and ends up in jail with a hefty fine. NOT WORTH IT PEOPLE. Don’t get drunk and do stupid things.

For you..

Baseball is such a fun game to go to, and a good sport for families. There is no crazy rough housing or people getting seriously beaten up or injured. I’d advice anyone to catch a baseball game in their area, even if your team isn’t that good (hey, I am a LOYAL Met fan after all!) or take a trip to CitiField if you’re ever in New York! You can get cheap tickets to mostly any game at StubHub or through the MLB.com website.
